We live in an amazing and multicultural world, that’s full of beautiful and talented people. Since we all are a bit obsessed with celebrities, we have a lot of favorites. We say we love this actor in this specific movie, and this actress in all of her Tv-shows, we obsess over that musicians album and so on. We’re focused on what they’ve achieved or what they’re working on, and let’s be honest, we’re also a little obsessed with their private life, but we rarely know what kind of background do they have. What kind of life did they have before becoming a celebrity, who are their parents and where did they grow up. There’s nothing wrong with that. But sometimes it’s nice to find out that your favorite celeb has the same heritage as you do. So today let’s talk about celebs you didn’t know were Filipino. It’s time for some Pinoy pride!
1. Bruno Mars
You probably know that everyone’s favorite “Uptown Funk” singer was born in Hawaii. But did you know that Bruno’s mother is Filipino and his dad is Puerto Rican- Jewish? Well, now you know.
The famous grammy-winning rapper apl.de.ap from the The Black Eyed Peas was born in the Philippines. His father is American, but his mother is Filipino.
3. Monique Lhuillier
This glamorous fashion designer was born in the Philippines. Her family comes from Cebu City and they own a bunch of shops there. You probably know Monique because of her incredibly beautiful bridal gowns. Seriously, this women designs the most beautiful wedding dresses.
Everyone knows Enrique Iglesias because of his Spanish descent. His father is a famous Spanish singer. However, the platinum-selling artist’s mother is a Filipino journalist Isabel Preysler.
Charlyne Yi is a very talented actress and a hilarious comedian. She’s cute, adorable and incredibly sweet. Guess what else is she? That’s right, she’s part-filipino. She was born in LA, but her mother is Filipino.
Hailee is an actress, a model and a singer. You probably know her from the movie True Grit, in which she player Mattie Ross. She was actually nominated for an Oscar for that role. Her mother is a Filipino interior designer.
The hilarious actor and comedian, Rob Schneider, is part Filipino too. Who would’ve thought, right? Well, turns out his grandmother was Filipino. She lived in the Philipinnes and married Rob’s grandfather, who was an American private, while he was stationed there.
We all know Darren Criss from Glee. He’s a talented actor, singer, songwriter. This good looking man also tried his hand at theater plays. You might’ve seen him in “A Very Potter Musical” or “ A Very Potter Sequel”. He’s also part Filipino. His mother was born in Cebu, Philippines.
It’s not hard to guess that Manila is Filipino. After all this famous drag queen, made up her name from the name of the capital city of the Philippines – Manila. Her last name, Luzon, is also the name of the biggest island in the Philippines.
Vanessa is a well known singer and actress. She’s probably most known for her role as Gabriella Montez in High School Musical. At one point we were all a bit obsessed with her relationship with co-star Zac Efron. But back to her heritage. Vanessa’s mother is Filipino, which makes her part-filipino too!
