Mathu Andersen is an extraordinary makeup artist. You probably know him from his work on RuPaul’s Drag Race. What you might not know is that Mathu also worked with world famous photographers like Steven Klein, Steven Meisel, Annie Leibovitz, Francesco Scavullo, Deborah Turbeville, and Ellen von Unwerth. Mathu is a self described perfectionist and a very talented artist. His works are incredible and his talent has been recognized not only by thousands of his followers, but also by major publications the likes of Vogue, Allure, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan.
Not only is he a makeup genius, he’s also a skilled photographer. He’s photographed many celebrities. Kelly Osbourne, Dita Von Teese, RuPaul, Nicole Richie, Pamela Anderson, Khloe Kardashian, Paula Abdul and Neil Patrick Harris have all been photographed by him, to name just a few.
Mathu is originally from Australia. He studied fashion design in the Sydney College of Arts. Andersen moved to New York in 1986. In 2002 he moved to LA where he joined RuPaul’s Drag Race. He posted his first Instagram picture about 4 years ago and since then he has managed to elevate the art of taking a selfie to an art form. He also has a very interesting way of captioning his pictures. The captions range from your usual descriptions to some pretty interesting musings. Let’s see some of his amazing work, shall we?
