It’s summer time and as much as we have been looking forward to hot weather, now that it’s here we just want a refreshing drink that will keep us cool. But what cocktails do we usually go for? Manhattans, Margaritas, Mojitos, Sex on the Beach, all those classics are great, but let’s be honest, we’re a bit tired of the usual cocktails we get all the time. Why not try some new summer drinks that you’ve never tried before. Here’s an assortment of refreshments that you might want to add to your drink arsenal.
June Bug is a tropical cocktail. It’s a perfect drink to sip while lounging on the beach. June Bug’s flavors will make you feel like you’re on a tropical island in the middle of nowhere, even if you’re just chilling on the patio. To make it you’ll need of a strong spirit (usually vodka) , coconut rum (such as Malibu), melon liqueur (such as Midori), orange or pineapple juice, whichever you like more, and lime juice. Shake all of the ingredients with ice and pour into a big glass over crushed ice with optional fruit garnish. Depending on how strong you like it and what juice you use, it may range in colour from bright green to a sludgy orange-brown. Experiment and find out what’s your favourite June Bug flavor.
Summer Fruit Daiquiri is a lovely drink for those who like slushies. A fruity paradise with lots of ice, is just what you need on a hot summer day. To make it you’ll need some sliced peaches, strawberries and mangos, frozen lemonade, some powdered sugar, if you want your drink to be sweeter, light rum and lots of ice. Combine everything apart from ice in the blender and blend until smooth, afterwards, just keep adding ice and blending until you reach the consistency you’re happy with.
Electric lemonade
This delightfully dangerous summertime classic with a twist is for adults only. It’s a great drink to have for an evening out or a party. It’s tangy and refreshing, and the soda makes it glow in the ultraviolet light, so it’s perfect for night of clubbing.
To make this drink fill a glass with ice. Pour in 1 part vodka, 1 part blue curacao, 2 parts sour mix. Fill to the top with lemon-lime soda (4-5 parts). Garnish with a lemon or a lime wedge and serve with straw.
Whiskey Lemonade is a very easy drink to prepare. Mind your, it’s a drink for those who like sour drinks. So if you’re more of a sweet cocktail girl, then perhaps it’s not for you. All you need for this cocktail is a little splash of your favourite whiskey, a splash of lemon juice and a little splash of syrop so it’s not too sour, pour all that over ice and add some water or soda to fill up the glass to the top. And voila – spiked lemonade.
