10 Movies that you Must See in Winter 2017

Winter is cold and dreary. Well, unless you live in Florida. But most of us don’t. The good news is that if you come down with a case of cabin fever, there are a whole slew of buzz-worthy movies to get you through the next few months. While there are plenty to choose from, we’re going to go ahead and make your life easier by choosing 10 that have the most potential!

1. The Disaster Artist
When does it start? December 8, 2017
Who’s in it? James Franco, Seth Rogan, Alison Brie, other awesome people
Why should I see it? In 2004, Tommy Wiseau created a masterpiece called The Room, a movie so unspeakably bad that in 2017 James Franco decided the story of the making of the film had to be made into its own movie. Does that explanation leave your brain feeling twisted? Good!

2. Pitch Perfect 3
When does it start? December 22, 2017
Who’s in it? Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, a bunch of other funny ladies
Why should I see it? Because you are a girl and you loved the first two movies of this comedy franchise about college cappella groups. Or because you are a dude who is a good sport about taking your Significant Other to this chick flick.

3. Downsizing
When does it start? December 22, 2017
Who’s in it? SNL alums Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig. Oh, and Matt freakin’ Damon!!!
Why should I see it? Folks, we have a lot of problems in this world and one of them is overpopulation. The solution, according to the plot of this movie, is to shrink people. If the early 90s hit Honey I Shrunk the Kids was any indication, plenty of zaniness is insured.

4. Black Panther
When does it start? February 16, 2018
Who’s in it? Chadwick Boseman, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, and a bunch of other notables!
Why should I see it? In a world full of white superheros, this movie offers some much-needed diversity. Plus Black Panther is just all around a cool character.

5. I, Tonya
When does it start? December 8, 2017
Who’s in it? The lovely Margot Robbie along with a bunch of other talented actors.
Why should I see it? If you were old enough to remember life back in 1994, you know everything there is to know about the whole Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan rivalry that momentarily turned the quaint sport of ice skating into professional wrestling madness. Or do you? The only way to find out is to catch this one in the theaters!

6. The Tribes of Palos Verdes
When does it start? December 1, 2017
Who’s in it? Jennifer Garner, Alicia Silverstone, Elisabeth Rohm
Why should I see it? Alicia Silverstone seemed to have disappeared from Hollywood about 20 years ago, but she is back! This coming-of-age family drama will be perfect for warming your heart on a cold winter day. Or something.

7. Isle of Dogs
When does it start? March 23, 2018 (Spring time!!!)
Who’s in it? Bill Murray, Brian Cranston, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, and so many other top talent (Yoko Ono!?!??) that’s ridiculous!
Why should I see it? Wes Anderson, who has directed some of the quirkiest, most charming comedies ever, takes a stab at an animated movie that the whole family will enjoy. Except for weird goth family members who only like sad things, of course. This one is about a remote island full of doggies and one boy’s mission to find his missing, beloved canine.

8. The Shape of Water
When does it start? December 8, 2017
Who’s in it? Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins
Why should I see it? “Sea monsters and janitors who fall in love with them” sounds like a topic for a talk show, but it is an actual plot to a movie. This movie. It is bound to take us to places we have never been before because what else would you expect from the quirky imaginative Spanish director Guillermo del Toro?

9. The Greatest Showman
When does it start? December 25, 2017
Who’s in it? Hugh Jackman (Wolverine!!!) Zac Efron (One of the Jonas Brothers!!! Wait…no.) Michelle Williams (!!!) and Zendaya (Who needs a last name?!!)
Why should I see it? This one is about the circus, so frankly you really have no excuse not to see it. Also, Zendaya plays a trapeze artist who falls for Zac Efron. Who among us hasn’t fallen for Mr. Efron?

10. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
When Does it Start? December 15, 2017
Who’s in it? Mark Hamill, the late, great Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Rider, John Boyega.
Why should I see it? The consensus was that the Star Wars prequel trilogy let its fans down, but if the first movie in the sequel trilogy, The Force Awakens, is any indication, we’re all in for a treat with The Last Jedi. The plot is a well-kept secret, but when last we left off, Rey had figured out where old hermit Luke Skywalker was hiding. So let’s all sit back, enjoy some popcorn and see where this all leads!
