The New Live Action Aladdin Casting Craze

Have you heard about the new Aladdin remake? It’s been all over the internet lately and everyone’s going crazy in anticipation of it. Can you believe that they’re remaking a Disney classic to be a live action movie by Guy Ritchie? Will it be like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels? Who will play Aladdin? Who’s gonna get the part of Jasmin? What about the Genie? All these questions have been plaguing millions of people on twitter and they’ve started coming up with answers way before anyone knew anything for sure.

A lot of people were concerned with casting choices. After all, Hollywood is known for whitewashing characters. You’ve got to agree that it would be super weird and also incredibly wrong if all of a sudden Aladdin, originally a Middle Eastern character was played by a white dude. Fans of the show also had similar concerns about Jasmin. What if they just randomly choose Scarlett Johansson to play princess Jasmine? We wouldn’t put that past Hollywood.

While the casting directors in Hollywood were choosing actors and actresses for the main roles, the people of Twitter put forward their own suggestions as to who they see as the ideal Aladdin and Jasmine. Priyanka Chopra was a popular choice for Jasmine and lots of people were suggesting Dev Patel for the role of Aladdin.

Even more people said that Avan Jogia, who you might recognize from the Nickelodeon show Victorious, was basically the real life version of Aladdin and that he would be the perfect choice for the role.

Thankfully, our prayers have been answered and the casting has been announced, so we don’t have to read gossip and worry anymore. Aladdin will be played by a Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, who you probably know best as the pink Power Ranger, got the role of Jasmine, and Will Smith will play the Genie.

Are these choices perfect? Well, in case of the Genie, we’d say hellz yeah. When it comes to Jasmine, a lot of people are not thrilled with the casting because Naomi Scott is not Middle Eastern, she’s Indian and British. However, when it comes to Aladdin most fans seem to be happy about the casting choice.

Now all that’s left is to wait and see what Guy Ritchie will do with this movie, how the actors will choose to play their parts and what sort of shenanigans can we expect from the whole live-action part of this film. We still have no idea how long it will take to make this movie and when will it be released, but let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope the end result will be worth the wait.
