What to Expect From The Live Action Lion King 2019

Lion King is such a big part of our childhood. So many of us have seen it more times than we can count and probably know the whole movie by heart. I certainly know a couple of people who can retell you the entire movie scene by scene and can quote it whenever prompted. Taking that into consideration it’s both an exciting and scary time for every Lion King fan. On one hand we’re all excited about a remake with this new glorious cast, on the other hand we can’t help but compare with the original and nitpick the hell out of it. Ultimately we’re all hoping for something awesome though. So what should we actually expect?

With Donald Glover playing Simba we can be sure that the Hakuna Matata song will sound freaking phenomenal. I wonder if he’ll add a bit of that Childish Gambino vibe to it. But hey, it’s the super talented Donald Glover playing our favorite character, we’ve got nothing to worry about.

Honestly the whole cast looks incredible. Beyonce is playing Nala – how perfect is that? With Donald Glover and Beyonce in the lead we’re pretty sure the soundtrack will be impeccable. We can only hope and pray that it’ll prompt them to collaborate on a song or an album outside of Lion King.

Comedian Eric Andre is gonna play Ed the Hyena which is such a good choice and we’re pretty sure that will be the funniest thing ever. Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing Scar, which will be interesting, we’re not used to him playing a bad guy but we have no doubt he’ll do an amazing job.

Timon and Pumbaa are played by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen. I mean, Seth Rogen was born to play Pumba, let’s all keep our fingers crossed he gets an Oscar for this.

John Oliver is the spitting image of Zazu. Once you see it you will never be able to unsee it. Oh and how could we forget James Earl Jones, who played Mufasa in the original Lion King is back to reclaim his role in the new one too. How metta is that?

Speaking of nostalgia, Disney seems to be really pushing it with this movie. Not only did they cast the original Mufasa, but they also released the trailer right after Thanksgiving dinner, when you’re sitting around with your family, reminiscing about childhood. That was such a sneaky and powerful move. And the trailer so far seems to be a shot for shot remake of the scenes from the original, but it looks so much better and so much more real.

While we’re on the topic of how the movie looks, lets just put it out there – it looks incredible. However it’s hard to tell where’s the live action in it. To me, at least from the trailer it looks like really good animation. But I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope there’s something later on, that they kept out of the trailer, that will show off that live action.

All in all so far it’s shaping up to be a very impressive remake of Lion King, something that looks current and modern while still preserving the element of nostalgia that will take us back to when we were kids. What’s not to like?
