As cooler weather approaches after a sweltering summer, with the seasonal change also comes a necessary wardrobe change. But the cold-weather looks aren’t what you expected this year. Some are recycled, nostalgic trends from the past, but others are irresistibly fresh and innovative.
1. A pop of color
The colder seasons aren’t just about neutrals anymore. A pop of color could do everyone a world of good, and even the trendsetters agree. Look out for super bright hues like decadent, royal purple or cobalt blue, – even a neon orange. Play around with standalone pieces like coats with different textures.
Berets are having a fashion moment but this once street-style-only look is being juxtaposed with higher fashion and more feminine looks for a cool and comfy wardrobe addition. Black, grey, and camel are our favorite, versatile looks.
3. Monochromatic Suits
The power suit has made a comeback for women recently, and with society’s new bout of feminism, women are harnessing their goddess power more than ever. We love them in velvet or corduroy with a statement color, with a long duster coat. Such an “Annie Hall” throwback!
4. Unexpected Pastels
Pastels have been making steady comebacks for decades – but we love seeing an Easter guy reinvented in totally weird ways. But it doesn’t have to be all girly frocks. For instance, on a puffer coat, thigh high boots, or socks.
5. Art Infused Garments
Pastels aren’t the only colorful trend taking Autumn by surprise. Richly colorful and bold Warhol-esque pieces were experimented with while Versace and Prada experimented with cartoons. In 2018, art is more wearable than ever.
Don’t just go for grays, blacks, reds, and blues – think outside the box with unique prints and shades in the form of boyfriend blazers and accessories. Balenciaga and Victoria Beckham are creating plaid looks that slay this season in, and a ton of street style stars have been seen wrecking it.
No longer is the fannypack your mom’s embarrassing road trip accessory – these cool belt bags are making a resurged appearance on ASAP Rocky, Kendall Jenner, and the Hadids. The fannypack is on the runway, and it’s a more surreal time than ever.
8. Old School Workout Style
Athleisure has been killing the fashion market for years now, but more recently, the workout gear is less Supreme, and more Teyana Taylor in Fade. The ‘80s and ‘90s workout gear is making a comeback with tight, bright shorts, clear windbreakers, and more. Those tackling the retro trend include Gucci and Fenty.
Is this cheating since we already included pastels? This traditionally grandma inspired color is reserved for spring, but with Pantone choosing ultra-violet as their 2018 pick, the fashion crowd had to interpret it in a softer way. Could be this year’s millennial pink!
10. Boiler Suits
This one-piece often sometimes called a “janitor suit” is the stylish full body romper everyone’s trying the year… For editors and models, it was a go-to for getting to and from runway shows. For us normals, it looks like a very comfortable brunch outfit. Try in cotton twill denim and play with fitted and boxier silhouettes.
