Famous Indian actresses and models have always been a great example of beauty and femininity. Gorgeous skin, long dark hair, a mysterious twinkle in their eyes and those beautiful dresses – what’s not to like? Men drool over them and women admire them. Many of India’s celebrities could easily compete with Hollywood stars in terms of both beauty and talent. No wonder some of them have already started to take over Hollywood.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra’s first big achievement was winning the Miss World beauty pageant in 2000. And even though she wasn’t the first Indian girl to get this title, she was the first to be invited to make a career in Hollywood. In America Priyanka recorded songs in English and made music videos, she also hosted several reality TV shows and even had her own column in a glossy magazine. In addition to that Priyanka Chopra also starred in a lot of movies. She’s been in about 50 movies at this point and it doesn’t look like she’s about to stop any time soon. She recently married Nick Jonas and had a truly royal wedding ceremony that went on for days. No wonder, after all, her and Meghan Markle are best friends.
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone is probably the most popular celebrity in India. She began her modeling career when she was in college and after a short while she began to appear on all glossy Indian magazine covers. Later she achieved world fame by becoming the international ambassador of Maybelline. In 2006, Deepika started her acting career. And what a successful start it was. The audience loved her in every movie she made. Throughout her career there were many rumors about her personal life, after all she is a gorgeous lady and everyone wanted to know who would be the lucky man that will steal her heart. Well we all got our answer late last year when Deepika married Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh.
Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor was destined to become a star. Her father, Anil Kapoor, is a famous Bollywood actor, and her mother, Sunita Kapoor, is a former model. With parents like that you’re basically guaranteed a career in show business. However, Sonam didn’t begin her career in television by landing the leading roles. She started by working as an assistant to the assistant on the film set of “Last Hope” in 2005. Only two years later Sonam was offered an actual role in a movie. Not only is she a movie star now but she’s also quite a big deal in at red carpets and all sorts of social and fashion events. Her personal life is going great too, she’s been dating Anand Ahuja, a businessman, for about 4 years and they got married in May of 2018.

Diana Penty is quite a recognizable person not only within India, but also far beyond its borders. When she was still a teenager she signed a contract with a global modeling agency and soon after began to appear in advertising campaigns of famous brands. You’ve probably seen her in Maybelline and Garnier commercials. Recently thought, she started acting in movies. Her debut was the movie “Cocktail” in 2012. She also starred in such films as “Lucknow Central”, “Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran” and others.
Chitrangada Singh
Chitrangada Singh started out as a model and that worked for her for a while, but in 2003 she decided to become an actress and starred in her first movie called “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi.” That was a very successful move for her, Chitrangada was welcomed by the audience as a talented actress and received praise from critics too. Since then her career has had its ups and downs but she’s made about 15 movies to date. When it comes to her personal life, she’s been married for 12 years, but about 6 years ago she got divorces and as far as we know she remains single. But hey, she’s been in 3 movies last year, so at least her career is going well.

Ileana D’Cruz is a very gorgeous woman, which got her an affectionate nickname “the beauty of Goa”. Ileana herself, however, likes to talk more about her work, instead of her appearance. She’s an incredibly talented actress and even though she’s only 31, Ileana has already managed to gain fame and recognition from critics and starred in more than 20 films. And this is despite the fact that her film debut took place only in 2006 in the film “Devadasu.”

Katrina Kaif is one of the highest paid actresses in India. Her path to success started with modeling, which isn’t unusual. But unlike the other ladies on this list she didn’t really plan on becoming an actress. She got onto a film set kind of by accident. She got noticed by Kaizad Gustad, a film director, who invited to her play in his movie “Boom.” That particular movie failed at the box office, but for Katrina it was just the beginning. Since that was her debut, she started getting a lot more offers to be in movies and now she’s got about 30 movies under her belt.

We can freely call Freida Pinto a world renowned star. After the role of Latika in the movie “Slumdog Millionaire” she immediately received the recognition of viewers and critics and began to appear mostly in Hollywood movies. She starred in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, which was a huge success for her too. In India Pinto is known as one of the most progressive women in the country, and not just because of her career in America. For several years now she’s been promoting gender equality throughout the world, and more recently has become the ambassador for the “Plan” charity campaign aimed at helping women and girls living below the poverty line.
Mallika Sherawat
These days Mallika Sherawat is a sex symbol in India. The weird thing is she initially did not want to be a celebrity. She even received a degree in philosophy at Delhi University. But having worked in ad campaigns she got used to the cameras and once she received an invitation to play in a movie. So she decided to give it a try. Since then, she’s become one of the most famous Bollywood actresses. Mallika also ventured out and starred in a Chinese film called “Myth” alongside Jackie Chan and she took part in a Hollywood project called “Politics of Love.”
Esha Gupta
Esha Gupta is known as India’s answer to Angelina Jolie. You have to admit, these two women do look similar. Esha isn’t as famous or as experienced in the film industry as Angelina, but we like to think she’ll get there one day. For a long time Esha was a catwalk model, but in 2012 she declared herself as an actress, starring in “Paradise-2.” Since then she starred in 11 more movies and who knows, maybe one day we’ll get to see her starring alongside Angelina Jolie.
