Long healthy shiny hair is considered to be the epitome of femininity. It looks great when it’s down, it’s great curled, when you do an elegant updo it transforms you. It basically gives you the ability to change up your look just by doing a different hairstyle every day. But what about an ultimate transformation. One you can’t go back on the next day? We’re talking about shaving one’s head. It’s not always about having a breakdown and “pulling and Britney”. Lot’s of celebrities have done it either for work, or for fun, or a fresh start and it was an empowering move. They absolutely rocked their shaved heads and look amazing. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?
1. Cara Delevingne
Cara Delevinggne had to shave her head for work. She was playing a girl who had cancer so it made sense to shave her head. Not only did she agree to do it, but she embraced it and made it the key feature of her Met Gala look that year.
2. Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart also shaved her head for a role. She plays a mechanical engineer that’s working in an oil rig that’s on the bottom of the ocean floor, in the movie “Underwater”. She said it was an obvious choice: “I was like, ‘It’s practical! I mean, I’m not going to be able to have touch-ups once I put the helmet on. I must shave my head!”
3. Amber Rose
Amber Rose shaved her head a while ago and kept the buzzcut. Apparently her friends told her she’d look ridiculous but she proved them wrong. I mean, do you even remember Amber Rose with long hair anymore? Exactly. She is the badass with a buzzcut and we love it.
4. Jessie J.
Another reason some celebrities choose to shave their head is for charity. Jessie, for example, raised half a million pounds for Comic Relief when she shaved her head. What a great thing to do!
5. Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron looked smashing in Mad Max and this is what she had to say about shaving her head in one of her interviews: “I just had this moment where I was like, ‘I need to shave my head! I can’t think about what I’m going to do with my hair in this movie. I’m going to be in the desert. I’m a new mother. Let’s just shave it.’ The next day we did it. I can’t even imagine doing it any other way.”
6. Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson shaved her hair off for a role in a musical but overall says the experience is very liberating and everyone should do it at least once in their lifetime. She also mentioned in interviews that she misses it because when her head was shaved her boyfriend used to rub her head until she fell asleep and it felt amazing.
7. Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o isn’t afraid of shaving her head. She chopped off all of her headfirst when she was 19 and has kept it pretty short since. But she says it’s not a decision she made on a whim, she thought about it for a couple of days. But she says she felt very liberated one she did it.
8. Natalie Portman
It’s not a secret for anyone that Natalie Portman shaved her head for her role in V for Vendetta and it was quite an experience. Natalie has mentioned in interviews that it was actually kind of wonderful to throw vanity away for a while. She looked incredible, is it even legal to look that good with a shaved head?
9. Zoë Kravitz
Zoe Kravitz cut off all her hair and bleached it blonde. Why? We’re not entirely sure. But what we’re absolutely certain about is that she looked stunning with the new hairdo. It’s just so freaking cute on her.
10. Amandla Stenberg
Amanda revealed her reason for shaving her head on Instagram with a caption “I just finished working on a film called Where Hands Touch directed by the incredible @iammaasante.
The story is about the experience of biracial children growing up in Nazi Germany. I shaved my head for the role. Feels really good. I feel so aerodynamic now. I’ve achieved the ultimate speed.”
11. Karen Gillan
Karen shaved her glorious ginger locks to play Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy and then later on Avengers. She wore wigs a lot at first, to keep her role a secret, but then revealed her bald head at Comic-Con.
12. Sigourney Weaver
Sigourney Weaver famously shaved her head for the role in Aliens 3. She said it made her feel lighter and colder. Literally colder because she didn’t have hair, it’s weird how hair keeps our heads warm, isn’t it? And she said it was a good choice for the character because it made her feel more vulnerable.
13. Kellie Pickler
The reason why Kellie Pickler shaved her head is very admirable. She did it to support a friend who has cancer. It was a risky thing to do while on tour and in the middle of changing labels but she knew supporting her friend was more important. And she says she feels stronger with this new haircut.
14. Cate Blanchett
Cate isn’t a novice when it comes to shaving her head. She did it for her role in Heaven but it wasn’t the first or maybe even the last time.
15. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is known for always having pretty much the same hair. Long luscious locks are her thing. But she did cut them off for G.I.A. and we gotta say it was an interesting and brave look for her.
