This Is How You Make That Trendy Dalgona Coffee At Home

Dalgona coffee is taking over the internet and the world. This new frothy coffee-based beverage is all over social media. There are countless photos of it on Instagram, people are doing all sorts of variations of it on Youtube, but we’re pretty sure TikTok is the platform where this madness started.

You have no doubt seen teens go crazy for this stuff and if you’re anything like me you probably thought – they’re hyper enough they don’t need more coffee. And while there’s already a lot of ways to make coffee out there and we’re not sure we needed another one – this one is different.

First of all, it’s not for coffee snobs. It uses instant coffee. Yeah I know, perish the thought. But it makes sense that on quarantine if you don’t have a coffee machine at home this would be easy to recreate. It looks all frothy and cool and very Instagrammable but it’s actually super easy to make. All you need is equal amounts of instant coffee, hot water and sugar to create the frothy mixture. And milk of your choice of course. Because the idea is to make this look like a frothy upside-down version of a latte.

But how exactly do you make it? Well, there’s more than enough recipes and tutorials online. Lots of classics out there and even some variations and experiments that people have been coming up with based on taste, texture and what they have in their cupboards. But let’s talk about the basics before we get into any experiments.

To make one portion of this frothy coffee you need 2 tablespoons of instant coffee, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of hot water. You mix it all up with a handheld mixer until it gets creamy and frothy. You can also use a whisk if you want but it’ll take a while to achieve that level of froth. Apparently, it takes 400 whips but who has the time to count that. All we know is that your arms will be tired and you can count that as your upper body workout for the day.

From that point on all you do is get a glass, fill it with ice and pour milk of your choice in. Top it off with the frothy coffee mixture and voila your Dalgona coffee is done. You can also apparently make it with hot milk if you prefer that. Some people also sprinkle toppings like cinnamon, cocoa or sprinkles on top, but this is taking it to that experimental stage and we don’t want to get into that.
