Since former US President Barack Obama took office back in 2009, the Obama family has been in the public eye, under intense scrutiny. And as much attention as Barack and Michelle received as the President and First Lady of the United States of America, their two daughters Malia and Sasha received a ton of attention as well. She’s one of the youngest kids to have lived in the White House.
At the tender age of 8 years old, Sasha was one of the youngest people to live in the White House when her family moved in in 2009. She is the youngest to have ever lived in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1961.
Sasha was born in 2001.
Sasha was born on June 10, 2001, in Chicago, Illinois at the University of Chicago Hospital. She attended the University of Chicago Laboratory School in Chicago until her family moved to Washington, D.C. in 2009.
Sasha’s real name isn’t Sasha.
Many may not know this, but Sasha is not the real name of the younger Obama sister. Her real name is Natasha Obama. This was a very tightly kept secret, until 2016 when Sasha had to use her real first name for a summer job at a seafood restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard. While working at this job, Sasha cleared tables and worked the cash register.
Obama promised Sasha a puppy on election night.
The night that Obama was elected, it is said that he promised Sasha and Malia a puppy. They eventually got their puppy in 2009 – an adopted Portuguese Water Dog – and named him Bo.
She attended the same private school as other politically affiliated kids.
While still in grade school, Sasha attended Sidwell Friends School during her father’s tenure in the White House and until graduation. Sidwell Friends School is the same private school attended by Chelsea Clinton, Joe Biden and Archibald Roosevelt.
Sasha is planning to go to college soon.
Upon graduating from Sidwells Friends School in the summer of 2019, it is reported that Sasha now plans to go to college. Sources say that she has already been accepted to Yale University, the University of Michigan and several other top schools.
Sasha was very sick as a child.
When Sasha was just 3 months old, she got a very bad case of meningitis. Her father Barack has said that her illness was one of the most terrifying times in his life. “Your world narrows to this very small point. There’s one thing you care about and you don’t care about anything else,” Barack said of Sasha’s near death scare. Although meningitis is a very serious disease, Sasha ended up making a full recovery and is healthy as of today.
