We’ve been diehard Gwen Stefani fans since the her No Doubt days, and that includes all the romantic ups and downs in her personal life. First, people thought that the 50-year-old and her country singer BF Blake Shelton eloped, but it turns out there’s more than one reason Gwen hasn’t wed yet.
Apparently, quarantine has prevented the nuptials because Gwen Stefani’s biggest dealbreaker is not being able to have her wedding at a church, as she is an avid Roman Catholic. Additionally, Gwen has not yet had her marriage with Gavin officially annulled, which a source says “could take years for the church tribunal to issue the decision.” Religion is now an important shared factor in Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s relationship that bonds the two of them even closer.
Since the two started dating, he rediscovered his own faith. She convinced him to go to church on a more regular basis, and reawakened something in him that made him “ believe in God now more than I ever have in my life” as he told Tennessean newspaper. In the same interview, he talks about the bizarre coincidences that led him and Gwen to meet, and eventually, fall in love. He claims that the experience of meeting this woman of his dreams didn’t make any sense without a higher being, but made all the sense with one.
Little did we know, but there’s another reason besides religion which could be a roadblock to the couple’s future. According to Stefani, the pandemic has made these lovebirds think more carefully about their relationship. Everyone is obsessing over the date and the details, but what’s really important to Gwen and Blake is the current issues that have the world in turmoil. In her own words according to a source, she doesn’t want to “rock the boat” with further marriage details.
Perhaps marriage just isn’t in the cards for these two. It doesn’t mean they don’t love each other, and won’t have a long relationship. Blake has often gushed about Stefani being the most supportive cheerleader for him ever. In fact, many celebrity could have been together for eons, only to get married and find out that it adds unprecedented pressure to the relationship, inevitably dooming it.
This must be especially true for jaded stars who have been married once before, like Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. Blake was wed to Miranda Lambert for four years, and Gwen was with ex Gavin Rossdale for a staggering 14 years, between 2002 and 2016.
However, another perspective is that this global pandemic has given Gwen more time than usual to think about things, and that it’s made her realize she wants out of the relationship.
Currently Shelton and his pop star girlfriend have removed themselves from the bustle of city life and are instead living a more quiet lifestyle in the country, right now, as many who are social distancing have decided to.
The couple has been together by four years, after their whirlwind romance began on The Voice. They were both going through divorces in 2015, and helping each other through very vulnerable times. That’s how their friendship started, and by November 2015, they were fully dating and become more open about their relationship, showing up to appearances like the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty.
Regardless of whether they’re donning rings or not, the two started some very married couple behaviour, as they split time between Blake’s Oklahoma ranch and a home purchased together in LA. Blake has practically become a second father to Gwen’s sons, and the families get along with surprising harmony.
In upcoming plans, both of them are pepping to return as coaches on the next season of The Voice. Downtime is always necessary (self care, anyone?) but both of them must be excited and motivated to get back to work, especially since Gwen has called working on The Voice one of her “favorite jobs ever,” regarding the crew and her co-workers as a second family. For this career woman, it sounds like her fiery ambition will always be on the front burner.
Either way, maybe holding off on marriage for the time being isn’t the worst thing ever. Weddings are beautiful, but divorces are ugly, and both of these two have already faced that reality, so they know better than anyone else. Rumors will always be rumors, and until they issue an official statement, we’ll still never know what’s going on with this musical power couple.
