These are more than your “Office Birthday Party” cakes. They’re more than treats you buy yourself after a long day at the office to have with your favorite herbal tea. They’re cakes that are there to commemorate an event during which you tell the whole world that you love another person. They’re wedding cakes, and they’re extremely expensive wedding cakes.
In fact, these are the 8 most expensive wedding cakes ever!
National Gay Wedding Show – $52,000,000
This cake wasn’t actually made for a wedding, but it was created for the National Gay Wedding show. It’s the world’s most expensive wedding cake, it was made of 8 layers, and it was decorated with 4,000 diamonds. I don’t know if people actually ate the diamonds (I know I’d be very scared for my teeth), but they did set the record for the most expensive wedding cake in the world.
Debbie Wingham (designer) cake – $1 Million
This cake isn’t the most expensive cake, but it’s hands down the most impressive cake on this list. First of all, it looks amazing! It looks better than most mannequins in clothing stores and statues on the streets of our home cities. It cost $1 million to make and weighed 120kg. More than the source material, sure, but also you know there was plenty to go around!
It was fully edible and was made using 1,000 eggs and 20kg of chocolate!
William and Kate’s $80,000 white wonder
This cake was as royal as the couple whose wedding it was made for. Designed by Fiona Cairns, this cake was covered with 900 sugar paste flowers (17 different varieties!). These included the English rose (obviously), Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodils, and Irish shamrock.
Gucci Mane And Keyshia Ka’oir – $1.7 million
What’s Gucci, my dude? THIS CAKE! It’s fabulous and expensive. It’s price was spiked up significantly because it was covered by 2,500 Swarovski crystals between each of the four tiers of the cake. The cake was over 3 meters wide. In fact, it was so big that Gucci and Keyshia had to use a sword to cut it! SWAG!
Donald Trump and Melania Knauss’s Grand Marnier Wedding Cake – $50,000
Donald and Melania Trumps’ cake cost $50,000 and was so heavy (200-pounds) that it had to be supported by a bunch of metal wiring. In fact, there was so much wiring in the cake that all the wedding guests were served “backup cakes” that were made using the same recipe. In the end, the “real” wedding cake was carefully “carved up” and eaten by the staff once the wedding is over.
Sofía Vergara And Joe Manganiello – $50,000
When Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello started their own Modern Family, their giant wedding cake cost $50,000. It had 5 tiers and was designed by the prolific Sylvia Weinstock. It was decorated with flowers and probably tasted as good as it looked.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s $40,000 Flowered Wedding Cake
Even though it cost $40,000 to make in 1981, this cake’s cost adjusted for inflation would make the current price of the cake a whopping $100,000! Just like Kate and William’s cake (mentioned earlier) it was decorated with flowers (English Rose, Orchids, Lilies of the valley, etc.). It took the bakers a whole 14 weeks to make it. In fact, it wasn’t the only cake at the wedding. The team actually had to make 27 different cakes for that wedding PLUS a duplicate of the original big cake in case something went wrong and they needed a backup.
Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian’s $20,000 black and white marble cake
A $20,000 cake for a marriage that lasted only 72 days. I don’t think any further comments are necessary here.
