Welcome to the mega or giant pizza slice challenge. Why feel the guilt of eating an entire pizza pie to yourself when you can just tell your friends that you had “a slice?”
Well, a 2-foot long slice that is. The most popular executors of the mega pizza are so far La Manna bakery in Toronto, Pizza Barn in Yonkers New York, and Joe’s Rotisseria in Roseland Park.
We can never get enough of pizza in large quantities and pairing the cheesy goodness with creative toppings, so we hope that the #megapizza challenge continues well into 2020.
On many of these pizzas you can try creative combinations from a mix of toppings, the ability to go half-and-half, or try out weirder garnishes like Mac n’ cheese or penne vodka.
At some of these restaurants like Joe’ Rotisseria, you can get a pizza slice where the top half is a giant calzone, and the bottom half is hock full of toppings of your choice. They also offer a crust made up of garlic knots and other mouth-watering inventions.
The guys over at La Manna in Toronto have even throw nachos, miniature pepperoni pizzas, pancakes, and bacon on a slice, horrifying some while causing others to drool non-stop.
La Manna came up with this idea years ago, as an entree for a family birthday party for friends of theirs. It gained traction, and to this day, they consistently sell out of these ridiculous XXL pizza slices.
Of course these pizza have been going viral on social media – who doesn’t want to pose with a giant pizza slice 10 times the size of their head? Shoutout to all the lactose intolerant folks out there with #FOMO – we believe in you to recreate a DIY vegan cheese version.
Most of these slices cost over $20, with three topping combinations coming in at more expensive prices. It seems pretty reasonable to us, given that it would be nearly impossible . For one person to consume these monstrosities. However, we are more than willing to try.
