Bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. After all, this is the place where you spend your nights, mornings, and evenings! Not to mention those lazy weekends when you can allow yourself just to chill in your bed with a good book and a cup of cocoa. This means your bedroom should be the cosiest place in your home and if you aren’t feeling all relaxed and comfortable just by stepping inside – you need to do some changes right now! Here are 9 tips how to turn your bedroom into a relaxing haven.
Aromatherapy
Your room should always have fresh air that will promote sound sleep, good mood, and overall health, but you can also add some aroma, depending on what you want. There are so many options! From scented candles that can sometimes feel a bit heavy to aroma lamps and even incense. Essential oils will provide a natural aroma that will fill your room with the freshness of lemon, sweetness of ylang-ylang, or flowery jasmine.
Declutter
Your bedroom is not the place for stuff lying around. Even if you have a small apartment and things need to be stored in your bedroom – organize! Create shelves, use huge boxes, invest in book shelves, and simply throw out all the stuff that doesn’t belong in a bedroom. You will feel much lighter and your sleep will improve, too. What’s most important – try to keep as little things as possible under your bed!
Subtle colours
Bedroom is not the place for bold statements and crazy Crayola colours. It’s a place where you come to unwind, so the colours should help you with that. Just like the room can be loud with music, it can also be ‘loud’ with colours. Stay away from dark, bright, and strong colours like black or red. For your room you want to go as subtle as possible, using muted tones and light palettes.
Mix patterns and solids
There are a few rules you should follow when decorating your room – always go for a mix of solid colours and patterns. This way you will create a balanced look that is not too boring (only solids) and not too all over the place (only patterns). It is also a good idea to have one accent colour that will repeat throughout your design a few times. It will tie the whole look of your room together, creating a cosy feel to it.
Leave your work out
It may be tempting to drag your work back home and put a working desk in your bedroom to finish some stuff, but please don’t do that to yourself. Even if you’re working at home, a working space should be separated from the space where you relax and de-stress. Otherwise the two will mix and it will be impossible for you to feel calm and peaceful in your own bedroom.
Redecorate often
You don’t need to go crazy and change the look of your room every month, but it’s a good idea to make slight changes with each season. In winter you will be naturally drawn to a warm colour palette, heavy blankets, fluffy carpets, and thick drapes that will help keep the heat inside the room. In spring and summer you will want lighter curtains, cooler tones, and less blankets lying around.
Bedside sanctuary
A bedside table can be a place that relaxes you the most. Usually we simply stuff all the little drawers with napkins and whatnot, cluttering the top with magazines, books, chargers, and various random stuff. It’s time to throw those things out and make it a place that will inspire you. Keep your aroma lamp there, some candles, a photo of a place you really liked visiting, or a painting.
Soft lights
Experiment with lighting and invest in some subtle lights that will create a whole different atmosphere in your room. In the evening you want to enjoy warm lighting that will relax you after a day filled with work and various events. Invest in some candles – having some live fire in the evening is the most calming thing in the world. Another thing you can try is decorating your room with fairy lights – they will turn your bedroom into a magic sanctuary. A salt lamp will not only create calm lighting, but it will also clean up your air.
Sounds of nature
Fill your room with sounds of nature that will make you forget about all the stress and worries of the day. Have one speaker in your room that will serve as your ultimate mood-booster in the morning and in the evening. You can play some calm meditative music in morning and relax yourself with sounds of night forest in the evening. You can even leave the sounds on while you sleep!
