Don’t you just love what Gal Gadot did with Wonder Woman? I mean, the movie didn’t leave much freedom in terms of character development – it was a pretty straightforward superhero arc sprinkled with a bit of romance, and our Gal here simply nailed it. She’s smart, gorgeous, funny, exotic, and incredibly athletic. But let’s imagine for a second that some other actress was casted for the role because I guarantee you there were dozens of ladies striving to play Wonder Woman. Could they have pulled it off? We can only guess now. But here are 12 Hollywood stunners who almost played Wonder Woman.
Megan Fox
Megan Fox is kind of an obvious choice because her looks are pretty amazing, I think we can all agree on that. But apart from the pretty face? I don’t know. Playing Wonder Woman requires dedication and the desire to create a character that will become a role model for many girls as superheroes and superheroines always do. Right? Megan Fox just doesn’t seem like that type of actress. Besides, she called Wonder Woman lame. There’s no coming back from that!
Dakota Johnson
Dakota, really? Now this is a really surprising cast choice to say the least. She’s a beautiful woman, but that’s about the only thing that makes her good for the role. Besides, she’s never been in any action movie and a girl needs to have some fitness for a role like Wonder Woman. And it would be really, really weird seeing her as a superhero after the not-so-heroic 50 Shades of Grey movie franchise. Thank you, and no.
Rebecca Ferguson
We’ve all seen what Rebecca Ferguson did for the Mission Impossible franchise, so it’s not hard to imagine her as a super woman running around with a shield and a lasso kicking bad guys. That being said, this gorgeous lady is British and that doesn’t really connect with an exotic Amazon warrior from a different reality. She might have pulled it off, but probably with much more effort than Gal Gadot.
Cara Delevingne
Cara Delevingne is a successful model who likes to take on different movie roles from time to time. We’ve seen her in Valerian, which is a bit action-packed and in Paper Town. She’s a good actress, although with little acting experience, but the main reason she was a no-go was her age, I assume. Wonder Woman is called a woman for a reason, Cara would be better at playing Wonder Girl or something like that.
Keira Knightley
I can see why someone would want to cast Keira Knightley as Wonder Woman, after all, she’s a star that’s made a name for herself and has a had a bit of action in movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Domino. I think we can all agree that the lady knows how to act, but she’s most gorgeous at playing in period pieces – that’s where her elegance and beauty shines the most!
Christina Hendricks
Can you imagine Joan Harris donning a superheroine suite and running around fighting bad guys? In some kind of a weird fantasy maybe, but not on silver screen. She’s a gorgeous actress and is great at what she does, but portraying a superheroine requires some real chops, fierceness, and countless hours spent at the gym. She could’ve been all that, now we’ll never know for sure.
Gina Carano
Gina Carano is a gorgeous lady and real life Wonder Woman. She’s so good at what she does! She really made a difference for all the women in MMA and even became a bit of an actress while she was at it. While she might’ve looked good as a Wonder Woman, I believe it would be too hard on her as Gina doesn’t have that much acting experience. She would absolutely nail all those fighting scenes, though!
Jamie Alexander
Marvel’s warrior goddess Sif seems like a type of Wonder Woman herself, don’t you think? Besides, Jamie Alexander, the actress playing her, really loves the WW character and would love to be in the movie. Sadly, though, she was already engaged to the Marvel Universe and it would be weird for her to transition like that. Although, Jamie admitted she wasn’t disappointed with the casting choice – Gal Gadot was one of a few women who could actually pull it off!
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah Michelle Gellar was considered for the role due to her superheroine past as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but wasn’t cast in the end. She almost played Wonder Woman back in a 2005 reboot, and although it never came to be, the desire to play the character never went away. Maybe that’s why the actress threw some shade at Gal with a meme that said Buffy would’ve made a better Wonder Woman. Well, I can’t say I see SMG as a Wonder Woman that could inspire thousands of girls and women all over the world, but I do love her as Buffy!
Sandra Bullock
Okay, I didn’t pick her – Lynda Carter did! The original Wonder Woman said Bullock is perfect for the role because everything she does and everyone she plays are just so relatable. I don’t know if it was a joke or not, but clearly Sandra Bullock thought she was kidding. The star laughed and admitted that she was too old for the role and there were much more suitable ladies out there. I really admire you, dear Sandra Bullock, for being so frank and open! And you do portray amazing characters that have a bit of Wonder Woman in them.
Olga Kurylenko
This Ukrainian actress made it really close to playing Wonder Woman, can you imagine? She was the last to audition and made it to the top 3 alongside Gal and Elodie. What can I say, it must have been a tough choice for the producers as all the actresses look so gorgeous and have some acting chops as well. She wasn’t too disappointed for not getting the role, though, as her plate is already pretty full with French movies.
Elodie Yung
Ultimately it was a choice between Elodie and Gal and as we know the latter got the dream role. Elodie Yung, who is brilliant at playing Elektra in Daredevil, didn’t hide her disappointment. I would be disappointed, too! The actress looks the part and has a black belt in karate, which would have made her really believable on screen. Still, she didn’t make the cut, what’s done is done. Elodie admitted it wasn’t the first time producers said she was perfect for the role, but just not what they were looking for. Ouch!
