11 Summer 2022 Makeup Trends You Don’t Want To Miss

Whether you’re staying at home and attending virtual parties or vaccinated and going out IRL again, it’s that time of the year to take out your sundresses and best makeup looks. We’ve seen several looks going viral on Instagram feeds, and can’t wait to try them out ourselves. Make the most of your hot girl summer with these foolproof makeup trends that are taking over 2022.

1. Smoky eyes

This smoldering, bold look is fabulous for virtual or in-person get-togethers — through every season. A smoky eye can either be elegant, rock ‘n’ roll, or minimalist, with an otherwise naked face. For a rocker look, makeup artists suggest subbing black liner for taupe, bronze, or mauve. Grey also works well with smoky looks.

2. Brushed up brows

Channel your inner Brooke Shields — big eyebrows are here and they’re here to stay. Whether makeup isn’t your thing or you just want to pair it with a dramatic brow look, use a thoroughly clean mascara wand or brow gel to open up eyes and turn you into a fierce high fashion model.

3. Glowing looks

If the local beach is too crowded or you’re concerned about skin cancer, get that luminous look from an illuminating powder instead. Bronzer is out, but this powder with a translucent, creamy look can brighten up cheeks. Illuminating sticks or pens are also a good option — think of them as the new highlighter!

4. Glossy lips

For the moment, matte is out and gloss is in. This look takes us back to our teen years, when we all had lip gloss in a minimum of 10 different colors. Consider a purple-tinted gloss or a pastel one, but even a clear gloss can make an all natural look pop like never before.

5. Rosy cheeks

This look is being interpreted in a more minimalist way for 2022. Rather than pairing blush with a loud lip or bold eye, we’re going for a flushed cheek look. The best way to achieve that is with a cream blush that’s not too bright, and has a little bit of sparkle in it. Rub on the apples of your cheeks, then move up and outwards with your fingers or a brush.

6. Epic graphic liner looks

Musicians like Doja Cat and celebs all over are experimenting with looks that involve a bright arch of neon eyeliner at the crease up your upper eyelid, right blow the brow. This is called a “floating liner” and it looks incredible when paired with an underlined brow to pull it all together.

7. Cat eyes and a peach lip

Perhaps Selena Gomez wearing this look is why it’s gone viral on the internet, but it’s a look that literally anyone can pull off. Simple, but cute, and ideal for when you don’t want to pile on the makeup but still want your look to pop.

8. No-makeup makeup

Let’s be real: while some of us are more excited than ever to get glammed up post- COVID, easing back into the world of appearances can beauty can be intimidating at first. For anyone who feels like this: consider a naked look that’s not actually naked.  We’re talking soft contour, a light lip balm or gloss, and artfully placed highlighter or illuminators to emphasize eyes and facial angles.

9. Bright, matte eyeshadow

If Tracee Ellis Ross wears it, we’re totally in. This look embodies summer, and can be worn with. Neon colors or darker, romantic tones. However, we encourage light pastels and neons, like Tracee Ellis Ross did with her matte pink look on Instagram. Bold shadow can also be worn in sparkly tones for the girly girls out there.

10. Poolside eyes

Keep your eyes cool as can be with blue and green eyeshadows and liners this summer. Both of those summery colors can apply to any eye makeup style, from sheer pastels to more dynamic ocean blues. Powdered looks are great, but we recommend a creamy eyeshadow stick, which lets you apply more precisely and blends more evenly than other shadow alternatives.

11. White liner

During the summer, black liner can look a little heavy. So why not lighten things up with a white liner? You can even combine white and black liner for a unique and expressive look, or pair all-white with muted tunes like pistachio baby blues, and tans, which are also on the radar for summer 2022, and bring to mind nostalgic 90s makeup looks.
