Chloe Kim is only 21 years old, and she’s taken the sports world by storm. Everyone has their eye on this  promising young snowboarder, who’s set to take home a gold medal after earning a halfpipe gold metal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics in South Korea. Here are all the things you need to know about this shining star and role model to many little girls out there.

1. Chloe Kim is trilingual, meaning she speaks three languages. She spent two years attending school in Switzerland, and speaks English, Korean, and French.

2. Chloe Kim is the only X Games athlete to earn three gold medals before her 16th birthday.

3. Chloe attended Princeton University after winning her gold medal, and while she waited until 2019 to attend, she stated that her first year was difficult due to being recognized all the time and the fact that she “just wanted a normal college experience.”

4. Her birthday is April 23, 2000.

5. Kim’s family originally comes from South Korea, where they still have family.

6. Her favorite candy is Skittles, and after publicly admitting that, the brand sent her a lifetime supply! Now that’s a lot of cavities!

7. She became the first female snowboarder to successfully complete back-to-back 1080 degree spins in a competition. This took place at the 2016 U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix.

8. Chloe Kim’s very supportive dad taught her how to snowboard starting at the young age of 4 years old, and clearly, she has a natural talent for it! He even gave up his full-tine career to help her pursuit of the sport.

9. She told Vogue magazine that she’s a city girl rather than a mountain girl, and isn’t ashamed to admit that she likes to hang out at the mall. Zara, Anthropologie, and Balenciaga are some of Kim’s favorite stores to shop at. 

10. Chloe Kim had a Barbie created in her honor, as part of the 2018 “Shero” collection celebrating she-hero role models all over the world. She told Teen Vogue that she was “so honored to be considered a role model” and wanted girls out there to know they could be “athletic and girly at the same time”.

11. She’s open about her mental health struggles. In the beginning of 2022, Chloe Kim, opened up about post-Olympic life after 2018, and admitting to hating life after the adrenaline of the Olympics. She discussed how hard dealing with such a high level of sudden fame was.

12. At one point, Kim even throw her Olympic gold medal in the garbage! Don’t worry, it didn’t stay there, and Kim has learned to cope with fame and constant recognition over the past few years thanks to therapy.

17. Between the ages of eight and 10, Kim lived with her aunt in Switzerland, where she regularly trained in the Alps. 

18. Her dad would drive her to Mammoth Lakes, where she would ski and snowboard. It was a six hour drive from their family home, but her dad would wrap her up in blankets in the middle of the night so that she could get a full night of rest and be on the mountain ready to snowboard when it opened. 

19. She’s known for her hilarious and relatable social media presence which has made her fans love her even more. In the past, Kim has tweeted about how obsessed she is with ice cream, and how “hangry” she was before a big competition.

20. In 2019, Chloe broke her right ankle, which forced her to take 22 months off snowboarding. She didn’t snowboard at all during this time, but it is when she began college. This resilient queen was back on the slopes by January 2021!
