At the 2021 Grammys, Beyoncé earned her 28th win, making her officially the most awarded woman in all of Grammy history. That night, Beyonce had a whopping nine nominations. During her acceptance speech, she said she was “honoured” and “excited” but those words don’t come close to defining how iconic this woman is in her field. Especially because what she won was in honour of Black Parade, her Juneteenth release on black power and strength. As a result of the win, we wanted to celebrate with a guide to Beyoncé’s very decorated Grammy history over the years, and how she got to where she is today.
2000
This was where it all started for Bey, and Destiny’s Child will always be synonymous with her roots. Alongside Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, and Farrah Franklin, Beyonce and her group were nominated for the first time, but didn’t get any awards.
2001
Just one year later (and missing another member) this popular R&B group attended the Grammys show once again, with these breathtaking green outfits that we’ll never forget. They were nominated for five awards, and this time, went home with two!
2004
Imagine performing with Prince for your third Grammy appearance. This year marked Beyonce’s solo career, which would skyrocket to heights no one could imagine. She did an electrifying duet with the Purple Rain singer as they performed his best-known hits. The same year, she went home with a staggering five Grammy statues, after six nominations in total as a solo artist.
2007
Knowles then went on to the 2007 Grammys, where she performed an unforgettable rendition of “Listen,” her hit song from Dreamgirls, which she also acted in. She was nominated for awards in four separate categories and ended up winning Best Contemporary R&B Album.
2008
No one has a history of more impressive performances at this music award show — I mean, who else can say that they performed “Proud Mary” with the legendary Tina Turner — and wore matching silver looks to boot!
2010
So far, this night marked the most Grammy statues that Bey ever came home with, for a total of six statues. Destiny’s Child motivated her for all those years, but all she needed was her own alter ego — Sasha Fierce.
2014
This marked the release of her fifth album titled Beyoncé, and her Grammy performance that year left everyone sweating, With hubby Jay-Z, the famous couple performed “Drunk in Love.” The next year, they won two Grammy statues for this track. The song was memorable, but their chemistry is what always stuck in our minds.
2017
Some call it 2017, some call it the Year of Beyonce. This came just after her album Lemonade was released, which snagged loads of accolades from critics, the public, and apparently, the judges for the Grammys. She earned a total of nine nominations and attended the show pregnant with her twins Sir and Rumi, in a breathtaking red sequin gown. The momma-to-be won two categories — Best Music Video, and Best Urban Contemporary Album. She even performed the most popular hits off Lemonade, which her mom introduced. This performance was dedicated to her twins, where she wore custom House of Malakai and looked like an absolute goddess. Even Adele used her acceptance speech that night to praise and fangirl Bey.
2018
With the whole family making an appearance at the 2018 Grammys, the Carters looked like nothing short of royalty. They appeared looking flawless as ever, with Jay and Bey in all-black while their daughter arrived in all-white with an adorable mini clutch.
2021
Here, Beyonce Knowles Carter wasn’t just a musician earning another award. The Grammy winner also became a moment in history, since her four wins this year officially made her the most awarded singer ever, with a record-breaking total of 28 wins. Apart from “Black Parade”, her song “Savage” with Megan Thee Stallion also earned Best Rap Performance. The Carters’ daughter Blue Ivy even won her own gold trophy for her appearance in “Brown Skin Girl” which won Best Music Video.
During one of Beyonce’s acceptance speeches, she called this groundbreaking moment an “overwhelming” one while sweetly thanking her husband Jay-Z, who she referred to as her “rock.” And even though this night was obviously all about Bey, she’s still humble as ever. The singer sent Taylor Swift flowers to congratulate her on winning Album of the Year, with a handwritten note. Until 2022, here’s to every year being the year of Queen Bey.
