Top 10 Weirdest Food Cravings of Pregnant Women

People have been creating food combination for years, and most of the time, they’re collectively iconic. But some people have some food cravings that are not yet accepted by the mainstream and are just straight-up weird. A lot of pregnant women (and just some oddballs with unique food cravings) have the urge to combine sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors in concoctions that fascinate some, and make others nauseous. Here are the top 10 weirdest food cravings of all time.

1. Ice Cream and Pickles

Pickles are a massive pregnancy craving, and for anyone pickle-obsessed, they’d probably eat the same things as a mom-to-be.  Pickles are tasty on hamburgers, or deep-fried on their own. That add a crunch snap of saltiness to a sandwich and many savory creations, but ice cream is a texture that pickles should stay far away from. Just the thought of the two in a bowl together makes our stomach curdle, but apparently it tastes like heaven for pregnant ladies.

2. Peanut Butter and Mayonnaise on Toast

Let’s try to relate to this one — maybe it’s a small amount of mayo, and it just adds a hot, buttery aspect when applied to freshly toasted bread. But if mayonnaise is being liberally applied and the bread is cold, we’re gonna go ahead and call this one a monstrosity. PB should only be legal with jam, fruit, or honey. Worst case scenario, you can add butter if you really don’t like sweet things.

3. Oreo and Smoked Salmon

Yes, we were horrified too after seeing this craving that apparently pregnant women experience. A combination of chocolate, sweet cream, and fish is something that we never want to try in this lifetime. Sometimes, there are just things that should never be mixed, and smoked salmon combined with any sweet delicacy is definitely one of those things.

4. Hot Cheetos Dipped in Yogurt

We get it — hot Cheetos can make your taste buds set aflame and reach for a glass of juice, but yogurt is a whole other story. Perhaps it just tastes like a dip, kind of like sour cream, but plain yogurt alone without any seasoning doesn’t sound that amazing. Funnily enough, pregnant women have even been known to dip these spicy Cheetos in strawberry flavored yogurt! Now that’s a creative combination.

5. Pizza with Sauerkraut

Pizza has had a lot of bizarre toppings throughout history, but even weirder than pineapple and ham on pizza is sauerkraut, the pickled cabbage that’s commonly reserved as a hot dog topping. You certainly don’t see this pickled ingredient on a classic slice every day, but pizza tastes incredible with pretty much anything, so we’re not opposed to trying it out.

6. Crushed Ice

As simple as this is, it is still a strange craving. Apparently, if you’re anemic (white is common for women in pregnancy) this is a standard craving. While we would prefer at least some flavored shaved ice or a nice bowl of sorbet, this isn’t the grossest craving on the list, but it might be the most boring. Still, on a hot summer day, it doesn’t sound too bad.

7. Lemon and Lime Juice from Concentrate

Apparently, the craving for sour and tangy things is serious during pregnancy, but we also know some non-pregnant people that can get down with this. If you have a high tolerance to sour flavors but aren’t a fan of candy, maybe this would work for you? Apparently, pregnant women commonly love to quarter a lemon or lime, or cut them into slices and bite into them like you would an orange! Honestly, we would prefer a glass of lemonade instead, but whatever floats your boat.

8. Watermelon Dipped in Pickle Juice

Watermelon is so beautifully sweet yet mild with a crispy finish. It’s the ultimate summer fruit, and tastes just as refreshing when paired with unexpected combinations such as basil and feta. But what kind of atrocity is this? Why ruin nature’s beautiful dessert by dipping it in the briny, nasty saltiness of pickle juice? We can understand any other savory combo, but this is taking things to another level. Still, can’t knock it till you try it!

9. Cream Cheese and Jam on Toast

This combo isn’t that weird — it’s a delectable breakfast or dessert combo, especially since cream cheese is such a versatile food that can be paired with basically anything. In fact, just these two ingredients can constitute a mouthwatering sandwich when you’re on the go or low on groceries.

10. Fries Dipped in Honey

Some people already do this, and it’s not the most gag-worthy on the list of weird food cravings. It kind of has a funnel cake effect that we’re not too mad about. Mixing ketchup and honey, on the other hand, doesn’t sound as delicious. Some honey and fries with a burger actually sounds quite delicious.
