Trying to lose weight is always a bit of a challenge. It’s something we all try to do at some point in our life. And while the rules for generally losing weight are pretty well known (eat slightly less and healthier and move more), the secrets of losing weight in specific places are still up for debate. And while we’re pretty sure it’s impossible to spot reduce fat we’re also pretty confident that there are quite a few ways to make your face look slimmer. A lot of the time the reason your face looks chubby isn’t because of fat, but because of bloating and water retention. And that’s great news because it’s a problem that’s pretty easy to fix. Here are a couple of tips on how to lose weight in the face.
1. Facial Exercises
We know you feel dumb doing them. And let’s be honest everyone looks absolutely ridiculous doing them. But those exercises definitely help with muscle tone in the face and can make your cheekbones look way better and more toned and make your jawline appear more defined.
2. Watch Out For Sodium
Lots of processed, pre-packaged foods contain a crazy amount of sodium and that can make you feel bloated, make your face look puffy and generally make you retain too much water. So trying to reduce your sodium intake will definitely make your face look less chubby because your body will finally be able to let go of all that excess water it’s been holding on to.
3. Say No To Alcohol
Having a drink now and then can definitely be fun, but those liquid calories can sneak up on you if you go out for drinks often. Not only does alcohol cause bloating and therefore making your face look fat, but it also is generally high in sugar and calories. So if a slim face is your goal we suggest you stay away from alcohol.
4. Make Cardio Part Of Your Routine
Cardio exercise is the best way to lose fat and since you lose fat everywhere when you do cardio – that includes your face. If you like a short burst of intense exercise to get it over with we suggest Tabata sets. Running is the obvious choice of cardio for many, but if you don’t like running – going on evening or morning walks for 30 minutes to an hour will be just as effective. And you can always just dance – it’s the most fun cardio we can think of, it doesn’t even feel like exercise.
5. Keep Hydrated
Making sure you’re well hydrated is also very important when it comes to losing fat. Drinking lots of water (2,5 liters a day) will make sure that your skin stays looking nice and firm. Also, as weird as it may sound, drinking enough water will make sure you don’t retain extra water and therefore don’t look puffy.
6. Have A Reliable Sleep Schedule
Long workdays, late parties and all-nighters are not great for weight loss. In fact, all of these are common culprits of weight gain. You see, when you don’t get enough sleep and are under stress your body releases a hormone called cortisol which is linked to weight gain. So the best way to reduce your stress and therefore shed some pounds and lose that fat on your face is to get enough sleep. Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep every day and try to plan some relaxing activities like picnics, walks in the part and a massage or two.
