Marriage is a big step for anyone, whether you’re a celeb or the average person. But for stars who live a fast life, they can make impulsive decisions that don’t exactly have the long-term in mind. The combination of hectic schedules, endless temptations, and fairytale dates are a formula for disaster, and this chaotic lifestyle can lead celebs to latch themselves onto whatever feels grounding at the moment. But there are lots of proof that shotgun weddings won’t last far into the future — just look at these celebrities who were only married for hours, weeks, or months.

1. Nicolas Cage and Erika Koike

Nicolas Cage has been married more times than we can count, and unfortunately, not too many of them have had a long shelf life. After all, he did stay married to Elvis Presley’s daughter for four months. In March 2019, he got married to makeup artist Erika Koike, and then filed for annulment four days later. Evidently, his bride didn’t reveal her criminal history or legal troubles, and Cage called the marriage a “fraud.”

2. Britney Spears and Jason Alexander

This goes to show that even if you were friends in childhood, it might not pan out into a lifelong romance. Alexander got an invitation from Spears to fly to Vegas on a jet, and they got married 11 hours after, wearing jeans and casual outfits. When they told their family, drama ensues, and they then appeared for an annulment.

3. Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman

This couple’s relationship was filled with drama — it was a classic tabloid, whirlwind romance that culminated with the two getting married in Vegas. Only a year later, they divorced, but apparently Dennis tried to break it off just 7 days after they wed.  It’s insane how couples can date for months but as soon as marriage is put on the table, everything changes.

4. Mario Lopez and Ali Landry

Lopez got married to his girlfriend of six years, Ali Landry, back in 2004. Then, just 14 days later, she filed for divorce, because she discovered he had been cheating on her for a while but didn’t find out until after their nuptials were already done. She got random calls from girls and to this day he still denies it! Ali is a total 10 and we’re happy that she’s moved on to a healthier relationship nowadays, with Alejandro Monteverde.

5. Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds

We’ll never know what went on between Eddie Murphy and this TV producer when they got hitched in 2008. The two got married on a private island near Bora Bora in front of loved ones, but after two weeks of realizing they definitely weren’t soulmates, they split up.

6. Dennis Hopper and Michelle Phillips

It turns out that the 1970s weren’t all love and free expression. Michelle Phillips, of the Mamas and the Papas, got married to actor Dennis Hopper, and it lasted only a week — eight days to be precise. Hopper said in an interview with the NYT that the eight-day is what broke the marriage. Apparently, Hopper was unstable and fired guns in the house, amongst other crazy actions.

7. Cher & Gregg Allman

When Cher and Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers got married, hippies all over rejoiced. It was long-haired, free-loving, pure hippy joy. However, this happy union happened only three days after she dissolved her marriage with Sonny Bono. Unfortunately, the relationship with Gregg only lasted nine days. Post-divorce, they were on again and off again for a while. Falling for younger men has its risks, Cher!

8. Zsa Zsa Gabor and Jack Ryan

This infamous beauty from Hungary has had a total of nine husbands throughout her life. She even published a book called How to Catch a Man, How to Keep a Man and How to Get Rid of a Man, and at the time had been married five times. However, her union with Barbie doll creator Jack Ryan is what took the cake. After 24 hours, it had to get annulled, since she never finalized her divorced from her last husband, Michael O’Hara!

9. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito

Bradley Cooper might be a hottie, but apparently he’s no picnic to be married to. In her book Jennifer’s Way, she revealed that he was a “marching band squad of red flags” calling him “arrogant” and a “master manipulator”. After being married for four months in 2006, they filed for divorce. The cause? Irreconcilable differences.

10. Renée Zellweger & Kenny Chesney

Once upon a time, Bridget Jones was married to country singer Kenny Chesney. They knew each other for just a few months before they took the big leap. When they divorced, Renée cited “fraud” which led to rumors around Hollywood that Chesney was homosexual. He was quoted saying that marriage caused him to “lose his identity” and there will always be some mystery around this breakup.

11. Mila Jovovich and Shawn Andrews

Dazed and Confused marked an iconic cult cinema moment in the ‘90s, and actress Mila Jovovich starred as a bombshell stoner.  When she was just 16, she married her on-screen BF Shawn Andrews in Vegas. She only did so because she wanted to score a bank card and got married to “prove a point” to her mother that she wanted to be treated like an adult. She claimed it “wasn’t about being in love” and that she wasn’t even into actors! Poor Shawn.
