Many of us are struggling with boredom these days. While being a millennial or a Gen Z kid might make it easier to stay home and escape into the internet, there are still extroverts who are finding it pretty hard to stay home. But let’s be honest, after a couple of days of not leaving the house, introvert or not, you start getting a bit stir-crazy. Everyone says read a book or watch a movie/ TV show, that’s obvious, but you’re not always in the mood for that. So here are a few practical ways to overcome boredom while staying at home.
1.Organize Your Closet
Most of us rarely have time to do this, instead, we just throw things in after laundry’s done and grab whatever we’re gonna wear in the morning. Or maybe you’re one of those people who actually hang stuff up carefully every day and your wardrobe isn’t just a huge pile of clothes. Either way, chances are there are items in your closet that you haven’t worn in years and even forgotten that you have them. Now is the change to take a look, organize, rearrange, color-coordinate, find long-forgotten treasures and get rid of things you no longer want.
2. Learn A New Language
You probably learned a language at school, but since then you’ve forgotten most of it and even though you want to get back to it, normally there isn’t enough time or you don’t have enough energy after work. But since now you’re staying home and either not working or working remotely – this means you have at least the time you usually spend commuting to work or a whole lot of time to get back into learning a language.
3. Plan Your Future Travel
Right now travelling might seem impossible, or definitely the last thing on our mind. Everyone’s focusing on how long we might have to stay home, some of us have had to cancel planned trips. But this too shall pass, and it’s important to remember that and keep planning for the future. So go ahead and research a new travel destination to explore. You have a lot of time to plan everything, save up and go if not this summer then the next one for sure.
4. Do A Puzzle
If you’re not in the mood for reading and learning there are other ways to engage your brain in a fun way. Jigsaw puzzles can be surprisingly immersive and most of us have at least one somewhere on the shelf. If not you can do sudoku puzzles or even crossword puzzles. Those are easily available online and a great way to distract yourself from being bored by focusing on a puzzle. Solving those will keep you busy and give you a sense of satisfaction and achievement in the end.
5. Learn A Dance Routine
Depending on your age you might choose different dances. For some of you, it’s a great time to step up your Tik Tok game, for others this might be a great opportunity to learn that dance routine from the music video you really like. You can also just search for dance videos on youtube and follow along. Just think about how cool it will be to level up your dancing skills and it’ll get your body moving which is always great.
6. Get Fit With An Online Gym
Many trainers have switched over to online training sessions and are doing live shows so you can exercise along with them and feel like you’re taking an exercise class in real-time. You can also get an exercise game for your Playstation/Xbox or whatever you have and play a game while exercising. And you know, Youtube exercise videos are free and there’s so many of them. You could come away from this absolutely shredded.
7. Learn To Play An Instrument
Is there a guitar that has been gathering dust in your room for years now? It might be the perfect time to pick it up and learn how to play it. Many online classes have been made free for the time being and Fender is doing a special 3-month free offer – take your chance, and learn how to play a few of your favourite songs.
8.Calm Your Mind
You might be bored at home and doing nothing but that doesn’t mean you’re not stressed. It’s a very stressful time for everyone so if you’ve never tried meditation you might want to give it a go now. Headspace is offering a special stress relief guided meditation for free. You could also try doing yoga to calm your mind and stretch your body – Yoga With Adriene seems to be highly recommended on Youtube.
