Gossip Girl was such a big part of many people’s lives. There was just something about that show that made us feel alive, it was probably all the drama, we love that in a show. So it’s only natural that when the show ended we were all kind of sad to watch it go. Talk of reunions or reboots have been circulating the media for years now and finally, 8 years after the show has ended we got confirmation that a reboot will actually happen.

While there’s no set air date for the reboot, we do know that it’ll happen on HBO Max, as it seems like that brand new streaming platform wants to have the monopoly on all the comebacks and reboots we’ve been waiting for. However, will it be the same show? Not quite. The idea is staying, it’ll be about the life of teens in a prestigious high-school, but way more modern.

The original cast members haven’t said anything about returning to the show so far. Blake Lively who played Serena van der Woodsen has previously mentioned that she’s not involved with the reboot and Leighton Meester who played Blair Waldorf said she’s interested to watch it when it comes out but she’s not really set to appear on the show.

Penn Badgley would love to contribute to the show but so far says he hasn’t really had any conversations about it with the showrunners. Chace Crawford said that while hearing about a reboot made him feel old and like he could only play a father on the show now, he would be open to coming back to the show if he was asked because it was such a big part of his life and such a great experience that it would be hard to say no.

Kristen Bell, however, is definitely coming back as the narrator in the reboot. She’s a huge fan of the show and has been saying for years that she would love it if there was a reboot or something. And now that it’s happening and it’s the original creators – saying yes was a no-brainer.

But who’s going to be in the new show? Well, that’s a secret so far. The only thing we know is that Emily Alyn Lind got cast as the lead. That’s as far as HBO Max is willing to go when it comes to revealing the new cast. They also have mentioned that the reboot won’t be a direct continuation of the show, it’s just a different perspective, but the original characters will be referenced and mentioned, so it’s not like they’re being replaced with other actors and it’s not a whole new world either. Some have said that this reboot should be viewed as the Gossip Girl universe expanding, kind of like Marvel does.
