I’ll be the first to admit I don’t really follow the world of fashion. I don’t watch fashion shows, most of the time I’m not aware of what happened on the most famous runways and I’m still not sure exactly when do new collections come out and what renowned fashion houses started what fashion trends. But I do watch a lot of movies and that’s where I get my fashion fix. Whoever is in charge of dressing up people in movies they must know what they’re doing, because once in a while you’ll watch a movie and see a dress so beautiful you will become obsessed with it. You know you probably won’t be able to find it, won’t be able to afford it and chances are you won’t have an occasion or the body type to wear it, but man do you wish you could because it’s so freaking glorious. So today let’s take a look at some iconic movie dresses that we never knew we always wanted.
Keira Knightly – Atonement
This gorgeous green dress looks like it was made specially for Keira. It’s so simple yet so elegant and that shade of green is possibly the most beautiful green I’ve ever seen.
Lily James – Cinderella
At some point in their childhood every girl wished she could be Cinderella and Lily James got to fulfil that dream, and in such a beautiful dress nonetheless.
Grace Kelly – Rear Window
It’s a legendary movie and a very recognizable dress. Such a simple silhouette but it does wonders for highlighting Grace Kelly’s best features.
Grace Kelly – To Catch a Thief
Another Grace Kelly classic, but this time it’s from To Catch A Thief. This is one of those dresses we all kind of think we can recreate by just wrapping some blue material around us in a fashionable way, but really it’s impossible.
Audrey Hepburn – Breakfast At Tiffany’s
Is there anyone out there who watched Breakfast At Tiffany’s and didn’t immediately want to put on a little black dress and go have a croissant on the streets of New York? There’s a reason it’s a classic.
Marilyn Monroe – The Seven Year Itch
The white dress Marilyn Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch is possibly the most recognizable dress in movie history. You’ve probably worn it as a Halloween costume at some point.
Kate Hudson – How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
There’s something magical about a simple yet well-tailored silk slip dress and that’s exactly what we saw Kate Hudson wear in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
Anne Hathaway – Princess Diaries
Just because this dress is absolutely not suited for any real-life occasion doesn’t mean we don’t wish we could wear it, after all, we all wanted to be the Princess of Genovia when we watched this movie.
Meryl Streep – The Devil Wears Prada
Move out of the way, peasants, the queen has arrived. Meryl Streep’s role in The Devil Wears Prada is so iconic we still can’t get over it. And so is this dress she wore. We’re pretty sure it’s Prada.
Julia Roberts – Pretty Woman
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, an unforgettable soundtrack and a truly spectacular red dress – now that’s a recipe for a good movie. How come we don’t wear white gloves with dresses anymore? That’s a trend we should go back to.
Dakota Johnson – 50 Shades Darker
Another slip dress on the list over here, but Dakota’s dress is silver. It’s also amazing how easily you can dress a slip dress up by wearing a feather cape and dress it down by taking it off.
Jennifer Lawrence – American Hustle
You really do need a perfect body to pull off a dress like this, because it clings to every single curve, but boy does it look good on Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle.
Kate Winslet – Titaniс
And here we go again with white gloves. It just makes everything look so much fancier. But honestly this dress Kate Winslet wore in Titanic would look good no matter what you wear it with.
Ginger Rogers – Top Hat
Now, this is a dress that was designed not only to look good but also to move in the most spectacular way when dancing. Ginger Rogers definitely showcased it in the best way possible in Top Hat.
Gal Gadot – Wonderwoman
You gotta appreciate a dress in which you can hide a massive sword. I mean, it’s Wonderwoman looking both elegant and badass at the same time, what else is there to say?
