Kelly Clarkson has undergone many transformations over the years, from her discovery on “American Idol” to her weight changes over the years. Today, she’s an empowered role model for young women and still has the incredible vocal chops that first brought her fame with tracks like “Stronger” and “Because of You.” Recently, she performed a duet with the legendary Dolly Parton on The Kelly Clarkson Show to sing “9 to 5.” Beyond her impressive singing career, Clarkson has had a lot of attention because of all the ups and downs regarding her weight.

In 2018, the Grammy winner showed up on the CMT Music Awards red carpet with a jaw-dropping physique. She confided in Hoda Kotb that she changed her eating habits after receiving a serious diagnosis and that her goal was never solely weight loss.

Kelly Clarkson loses over 40 pounds with the Plant Paradox diet

Recently, she was in the spotlight for going on the plant paradox diet, which resulted in Kelly Clarkson losing approximately 40 pounds. Based on Dr. Steven Gundry’s best-selling book by the same name.

The diet restricts gluten and other types of “lectins” from your food regimen. What exactly are lectins? Ultimately, they’re a kind of protein that exists in foods like fruits, nuts, and veggies.

Kelly tried this diet as a way to manage her autoimmune and thyroid conditions, but embarking on this journey resulted in a surprising weight loss, which was an unexpected perk for the singer.

What is the plant paradox diet?

Gundry’s theory goes that eating lectins can cause harm to the body since it can cause inflammation and potentially leaky gut syndrome. Lectins show up in all kinds of ingredients, including eggplant, peanuts, soy, quinoa, potatoes, peppers, and tomatoes. When Clarkson eliminated lectins from her diet, along with processed or saturated foods, and reduced her consumption of cream and butter, the singer’s health improved greatly.

Gundry goes on to say that chemicals and environmental factors are “disruptors” that can create imbalances in the body. Rather than using human studies to verify what he believes in, he uses anecdotal evidence, telling Healthline, “[Kelly Clarkson’s] experience is exactly like tens of thousands of patients who have followed the program. In short, it works.”

Should I go on the plant paradox diet?

While a lectin-free diet can work for many people, and those currently experiencing leaky gut syndrome, it doesn’t work for everyone. It’s a pretty restrictive diet that can be tough to follow, and there isn’t currently any scientific evidence that backs it up or proves that lectin can be harmful to the body.

This is especially important to consider since many nutritional experts believe that the healthiest foods in the world contain lectins. Beyond that, lectins are found in a whopping 30% of grains, veggies, and fruits.

For those who are considering trying it out, be sure to talk to a medical professional since heavily restricting or changing your diet can result in a loss of nutrients that are important for your body. Despite the lack of evidence on the lectin-free diet, many experts say that having a whole-food diet filled with plant-based foods can be beneficial. Basically, if you stay away from fast food and processed ingredients, you should be ok. This will allow you to lower your sugar intake, lose weight, and cut calories all at once.
