Many people spend their lives “shipping” certain celebrity couples, making bets on how long they’ll last, or being jealous of their fairytale endings. When famous couples break up, many of us feel personally heartbroken (is love a lie?) and worry about what it might mean for us if gorgeous superhumans like Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston couldn’t make it. Sometimes, celebrity exes get back together after a breakup, and while the second go-around isn’t always successful, at least they made the effort, right? While some famous couples are too toxic to get back together after the first split, others just needed a break to strengthen their bond even more. Here are all the times celebs got back together and gave us hope.
Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus
These two weren’t meant to be together forever, but after their initial breakup in 2010 (which was actually their second breakup, unbeknownst to the public), they decided to give their relationship another chance in 2011. Things appeared to be progressing positively; they became engaged in 2012, but a year later, they ended their relationship. In 2016, they gave it another try and got married in 2018. Unfortunately, the love didn’t last, and they finally filed for divorce in 2019. What a rollercoaster! If you’re dizzy from the whiplash, you’re not alone.

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber
In 2010, they first spotted each other getting cozy in an IHOP. They denied dating and called each other best friends, but in reality, it was the start of an epic love story. In November 2012, they split, with a source revealing that their busy schedules made it too hard to maintain a relationship, and trust issues Selena had with Justin didn’t help. Jelena tried again in 2015, and while they dated other people in the coming years, they got back together in 2017 before finally taking another break. This time it was permanent. Selena moved on with Benny Blanco, and Justin with Hailey Baldwin.

Sienna Miller and Jude Law
These two found themselves at the center of a scandal. After getting engaged in 2004 on Christmas Day, the lovebirds promptly exited the honeymoon phase when it was revealed in 2005 that Jude had been sleeping with the nanny, who spoke out about the affair to the tabloids. She called him a “masterful lover who made my whole body tingle,” and Jude issued a public apology. The couple broke up but somehow reunited in 2009, only to have a final breakup in 2011, with an insider telling People that the relationship “had run its course.”

Bella Hadid and The Weeknd
This supermodel and musician couple has already broken up twice and gotten back together once, but many seem to think it’s not the end, with one source telling UsWeekly in 2020, “There’s always a possibility that they will get back together down the line.” The relationship first started in 2015 but experienced its first split in November 2016. Things got complicated when The Weeknd was seen canoodling with Selena Gomez, who Bella then unfollowed on Instagram. Selena and The Weeknd ended things in 2017, and the next month, he and Bella were back on. They were later spotted kissing at Coachella in 2018, and although they have since parted ways, the future remains uncertain for these two.

Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid
The Hadid sisters can’t seem to let go of their former flames! Ex-boy bander Zayn Malik and supermodel Gigi Hadid were first seen together in 2015—she was in his “PILLOWTALK” music video, and while they first denied being a couple, Zayn gave in and called her his girlfriend on the “Zach Sang Show.” They broke up in 2016 but were on and off until 2018, when they officially separated, and Gigi put out a public statement. However, in April 2018, they were spotted making out. Then (brace yourself) they broke up once more in 2019 and were back together in 2020, just in time for Gigi to drop a shocking pregnancy announcement. While they currently co-parent amicably, the couple has permanently separated, with Gigi now dating Bradley Cooper.

Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson
In 2016, these two first connected when a Halloween party caught them making out. In 2017, Khloé confirmed her pregnancy, leading to a tumultuous period. Before the birth of their daughter, Thompson was accused of cheating, and it was reported that he had been with at least four other women. Things might have gotten rocky, but they were back together by 2018. However, when it was revealed in 2019 that he had cheated with close family friend Jordyn Woods, Khloé gave up. And even though they weren’t officially back together, KUWTK cast members claimed she was still sleeping with her ex. In 2020, they were back together but split again in 2021 after yet another cheating scandal.

Cardi B and Offset
In 2020, Cardi B filed for divorce from fellow rapper Offset. Despite court documents calling the union “irretrievably broken,” things weren’t so straightforward for this back-and-forth couple. Just months later, the divorce papers were dismissed. The couple first wed in 2017 and split a year later after Offset was accused of cheating, but tried to work through the issues. Cardi said she believed in forgiveness, even though many women were disappointed in her decision. In 2020, she dropped the filing, but in 2024, she officially filed for divorce again and went through with it.

Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
This couple first met on the set of “Hope & Faith” in 2004, and the connection was electric, according to Meghan. In 2006, they got engaged, but called it off in 2009, deciding to stay friends. Apparently, that wasn’t enough, and they went on to marry in Hawaii in 2010 and have two kids together. In 2015, they filed for divorce, but just days after announcing the separation, the two had a third child and decided not to go through with it. Unfortunately, things didn’t last, and they filed for divorce a final time in November 2020.
